What We Do
The SILC program is designed to address the needs of students with a complex developmental disorder that affects how the student behaves, interacts with others, communicates, and learns. These students have deficits in the areas of communication, social skills, and behavior that need to be addressed on an individual basis. Their needs, as demonstrated by review of data, grades, IEP updates, and behavior referrals require additional support to ensure academic success in the general education setting.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Reporting directly to the campus principal, the Structured Integrated Learning Classroom teacher performs the following duties:
- Provides direct social skills instruction to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) within the general education classroom and a small group setting to address pragmatic communication skills and significant maladaptive social behaviors
- Implements behavior crisis strategies affording the student an opportunity to compose himself/herself and return to the general education classroom
- Implements incentive strategies to encourage students to assume responsibility for general education requirements
- Implements a tangible reward system allowing students to access reinforcers including edibles, tangibles, and computer/interactive games.
- Provides academic and behavioral support to students receiving instruction within the general education classroom
- Ensures accommodations, modifications, and behavior intervention plans are implemented with fidelity
- Requisitions materials, equipment, and supplies needed for implementation of students’ behavior programming
- Utilizes campus positive behavior supports
- Provide support during nonacademic activities such as assemblies and gradually fade support as indicated by student success
- Serves as a member of the Admission, Review, and Dismissal/Individual Educational Plan Committee.
- Evaluates individual student progress based on behavioral data collection.
- Participates in placement decisions based on educational, social, and behavioral data presented to the committee.
- Provide research based teaching strategies and behavioral interventions used specifically with students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to administrators, teachers, and parents
