What We Do

The Educational Diagnostician is a member of the multi-disciplinary team that is responsible for the evaluation and identification of the 13 eligibility areas recognized by TEA as requiring special education supports and services.  The Educational Diagnostician is also responsible for following all local, state and federal timelines in regard to the Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings and assessment process as well as facilitating the IEP meetings.

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Conduct compliant and accurate assessments for students who are eligible for special education services or who are suspected of having a disability and are in need of special education services.
  2. Adhere to both state and local assessment guidelines.
  3. Facilitates the coordinated efforts of evaluation personnel and service providers.
  4. Establish eligibility and discuss programming options with ARD committee members for students with disabilities.
  5. Adhere to state and local assessment timelines for both initial evaluations and re-evaluations.
  6. Hold ARD/IEP meetings that are dually constituted.
  7. Maintain appropriate legal documents and legally mandated timelines in regards to students’ specialized programming.
  8. Follow all local, state and federal timelines for Individual Education Plan meetings.
  9. Attends Individual Education Plan meetings and completes accurate paperwork documenting the meetings.
  10. Assumes responsibility to distribute appropriate IEP meeting information to various staff members, students and parents.
  11. Attend all required meetings and staff development and participate in continuing education activities in order to maintain certification and keep informed of best practices in the field of special education and assessment.
  12. Effectively communicate with parents, teachers and other assessment staff members. Collaborate as needed with campus personnel to provide the most appropriate services for students with disabilities.
  13. Provide guidance of the Response to Intervention (RtI) process with the campus and make recommendations for students who are currently receiving RtI interventions.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director and Director of Special Services, as well as the Coordinator for Assessment.
