Absence from Duty Procedures for SpEd District Staff


What We Do

Unplanned Absence:
If you are going to be absent from work unexpectedly, due to personal illness, child/family illness, etc. you must:
  1. Call or text your immediate supervisor by 7:30 am to report your absence. 
  2. Call the front receptionist 281.891.6265 or send an email to speddept@springisd.org  AND the campus administrator(s) to which you are assigned with notification of your absence.
  3. Submit the online Absence from Duty Form within 24 hours of your return to work (located under the Employee Access Center in the Spring ISD Portal).  For Detailed Instruction Click for the How To Guide

Planned Absence: 
If you are going to be out (non-duty or state personal day), you must:
  1. Follow district guidelines for requesting use of these days.
  2. Submit the online Absence from Duty Form a minimum of 24 hours in advance (located under the Employee Access Center in the Spring ISD Portal).
  3. Email your immediate supervisor AND the campus administrator(s) to which you are assigned to let them know of your absence. 
  4. Contact the front receptionist 281.891.6265 or send an email to speddept@springisd.org with notification of your absence.

Note: District policy states that personal days cannot be used preceding or following a district holiday. A request made for time off during times outside of policy, due to an urgent matter, will need to be made directly to the Executive Director of Special Education, Peg Sherwood (so the circumstances can be reviewed before a decision is rendered) before you submit the request online. Staff members must schedule an appointment with Ms. Sherwood to discuss in the circumstance person . Do not submit these leave requests in the online system --- until Ms. Sherwood has approved the absences. 

Absence Request for Professional Development:
    1. Submit your request using Out-Of-District Professional Development Form and its required attachments to your direct supervisor.
    2. Once you have received approval for the PD session from your supervisor,  submit the online Absence from Duty Form and select "Professional Leave" (located under the Employee Access Center in the Spring ISD Portal).
    3. Attend the professional development session.
    4. Submit your PD certificate to your supervisor within 7 days. 
Note: If you signup for professional development session without prior approval that has been approve and verified on the "Out-Of-District  Professional Development Form" then you will be held responsible for paying the professional development fees.
