PRIMARY PURPOSE: The 18+ Teacher is responsible for providing a comprehensive program of vocation and life skills for students on the school campus and in the community settings. All employees of SISD are expected to act with integrity, support organizational goals, communicate in a clear and respectful manner, championing the needs of our students and drive continuous improvement.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: - Develops and implements instructional plans to assist students in independent living, community access and vocational skills.
- Develops and implements instructional materials.
- Be knowledgeable about Department of Labor Regulations concerning community based vocational education, supported employment and competitive employment
- Train students to independently lead portions of their ARD/IEP meetings
- Market program in community to obtain employment and training opportunities for students with disabilities
- Maintains up-to-date records on student progress.
- Contacts parents on student progress.
- Maintains classroom areas and equipment to facilitate and/or enhance learning.
- Organizes, transports and supervises students on community-based internships, training sites and community trips.
- Utilizes therapeutic holding when necessary.
- Assists with the implementation of programs developed by related services personnel.
- Maintains the confidentiality of student and parent information.
- Develops schedule for instructional aide.
- Maintain flexible working relationship and provide support to the instructional aide.
- Maintain bus license, CPR, and medication training.
- Takes part in an initial series of Life Skills training sessions and subsequent training as directed by special education supervisor.
- Performs other appropriate duties as assigned by supervisor.
